Where to Eat in Batu Ferringhi: Beach Food Courts, the Night Market and a Michelin Grill

Batu Ferringhi is Penang's resort strip. It is a few kilometres of beach hotels on the north coast, with one main road (Jalan Batu Ferringhi) running behind them. Eating here works differently from George Town. Choice is narrower, prices aimed at tourists are common, and the evening revolves around the night market and the food court beside it. The best street food is actually on the way in, in Tanjung Bungah, where two places are in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide.

If you're deciding where to base yourself, see George Town vs Batu Ferringhi. For the beach, activities and hotels, see the Batu Ferringhi guide. This guide covers only where to eat.

Best for:

Eat dinner here, and stop in Tanjung Bungah for char koay teow or chicken rice on your way to or from town.

People staying on the beach strip who want to eat well without riding into George Town every night; families who need easy evening options; couples looking for one special dinner by the sea.

Batu Ferringhi

Long Beach (hawker food court)

Jalan Batu Ferringhi, on the main strip

Long Beach is the open-air hawker food court in the middle of the strip, next to the night market. It is the easiest cheap dinner in Batu Ferringhi. Expect Malaysian hawker staples such as char kway teow, satay and laksa, alongside Western dishes for less adventurous eaters. Time Out describes it as a beachfront evening food court aimed mainly at visitors, with prices a bit above other Penang food courts (Time Out Penang). A 2025 local guide recommends its char kway teow and satay (Perth Travelers).

It works the same way as other Penang hawker centres: take a table, note the number, order at the stalls, and pay when the food arrives.

Batu Ferringhi Night Market

Along Jalan Batu Ferringhi

The night market sets up along the main road in the evening. It is mostly souvenirs, clothes and accessories, with snacks and drinks between the stalls, so think of it as an after-dinner walk rather than a dinner venue. It reopened after the pandemic and was busy again by August 2022, supported mainly by domestic tourists staying at the beach hotels (The Star, 24 August 2022). See Penang night markets for others around the island.

Ferringhi Garden

34 Jalan Batu Ferringhi

This is a sit-down dinner restaurant in a landscaped garden with water features and lamplight. The menu mixes Western grills and seafood with Asian dishes (Time Out Penang). It is a romantic, special-occasion choice, and prices are well above hawker level. The 2025 guide above singles out its lobster.

Feringgi Grill (Shangri-La Rasa Sayang)

Mezzanine Level, Rasa Wing Lobby, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang

This is the strip's fine-dining room and it is in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide. Michelin says it has had a loyal following since 1973 and still keeps its old-world romantic feel (MICHELIN Guide). The hotel lists dinner daily from 6pm to 10.30pm and a smart-casual dress code: long trousers and covered shoes for men, and no shorts, sandals or sleeveless shirts (Shangri-La Rasa Sayang). Book ahead.

On the way: Tanjung Bungah

Tanjung Bungah is the stretch of coast between Gurney Drive and Batu Ferringhi. Bus 101 passes through it. Two of its places are worth a stop:

Awesome Char Koay Teow

New KK99 Cafe, 99 Jalan Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah

This stall holds a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide. It is a family business now run by the third generation, and each plate is fried to order with plenty of wok hei (MICHELIN Guide).

Fatty Loh Chicken Rice

21 Jalan Fettes, Tanjung Bungah

This shop is in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide and is now in its third generation. It is known for Hainanese chicken rice, which you can order by the half, and also serves other Southeast Asian favourites (MICHELIN Guide).

When to go

  • Long Beach and the night market: evenings. Both are built around the after-beach crowd.
  • Feringgi Grill: dinner only for non-residents. Breakfast is for Rasa Wing guests only, according to the hotel.
  • Tanjung Bungah stalls: lunch or an early dinner on your way along the coast. Hawker stalls keep their own rest days, so check before making a special trip.

Getting there by bus

Rapid Penang Bus 101 runs from Weld Quay and Komtar in George Town through Pulau Tikus, Gurney Drive, Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah to Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang. Bus 102 runs from the airport to Teluk Bahang along the same coast. See our Bus 101 guide for stops, including the Batu Ferringhi night-market stop.
