Beach Hotels in Penang
Batu Ferringhi · Tanjung Bungah · Teluk Bahang
Penang’s beach hotels are on the island’s north coast, strung along the road west from George Town. Tanjung Bungah comes first, then Batu Ferringhi, the main resort strip with its night market and water sports, and finally Teluk Bahang at the western end.
The trade-off is distance. Batu Ferringhi is about 16 km from George Town, so if most of your days are for heritage streets and hawker food, stay in town and come out for a day. If pool and beach time is the point of the trip, the north coast is the better base. Not sure? Our where-to-stay area finder weighs it up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I stay in George Town or Batu Ferringhi?
Stay in George Town if your trip is mostly food, heritage and sightseeing: it is walkable and central. Choose Batu Ferringhi if a beach-and-pool resort holiday is the main point, because it is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from George Town, which makes daily city sightseeing tiring. Many visitors split their stay: a few nights in George Town, then a couple at the beach.
Is every hotel on this page on the beach?
No. This page lists hotels whose recorded area is Batu Ferringhi, Tanjung Bungah or Teluk Bahang, the north-coast beach districts. Some sit on the sand, others are across the coast road or up the hillside. Each hotel’s own listing describes where it is; check it before booking if beach access matters.
Which beach area has the most hotels?
Of the hotels on this page, 11 are in Batu Ferringhi, 2 are in Tanjung Bungah, 1 is in Teluk Bahang. Batu Ferringhi is the main resort strip; Tanjung Bungah sits between it and George Town; Teluk Bahang is at the western end of the north coast.
How far is Batu Ferringhi from George Town?
About 16 km, which is roughly 30 minutes by car or Grab outside rush hour. Penang is compact, but the beach strip is far enough that basing there for daily city sightseeing gets tiring.
