Tai Tong Restaurant

Tai Tong (大東酒楼) is one of Penang's oldest and most established dim sum restaurants, on Lebuh Cintra in George Town and going since the 1950s. It is a traditional Cantonese eatery where, at breakfast, staff still wheel dim sum pushcarts from table to table — you pick straight off the trolley. Mornings are busy and queues are common; later in the day the kitchen turns to cooked Cantonese tze char dishes. Crowd favourites off the carts include har gow, chicken feet and crispy carrot cake. Ownership has changed over the decades but the old-school dim sum experience has stayed much the same.
