Suffolk House Restaurant

Suffolk House is widely regarded as Malaysia's only surviving Georgian mansion, an early-1800s Anglo-Indian garden house on Jalan Air Itam that once served as the residence of Penang's founder Sir Francis Light and later governors. A major restoration completed in 2007 won the building a 2008 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Distinction, and it now operates as a restaurant and event venue. Dining is course-based — a set lunch or dinner of European fare served in the grand ballroom — with a popular colonial-style afternoon high tea on the north terrace overlooking the lawns. It is as much a heritage experience as a meal, set among sprawling gardens and a running brook.
