Sister Yao's (姚氏姐妹) is a char koay kak stall on Lorong Macalister in George Town, awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Char koay kak is the Teochew breakfast of steamed rice-and-corn-flour cake broken into bite-sized pieces and stir-fried hard in a wok with preserved radish, egg, bean sprouts and dark soy until smoky and crusty at the edges. The stall was founded in 1963 by Yao Joo Seng and is now run by his daughters, including Mdm Yao Guat Lan and her sisters. It is a cash-only, mornings-only affair — get there before it sells out.
