Sarkies is the colonial all-day dining room of the historic Eastern & Oriental Hotel on Lebuh Farquhar, named after the Armenian Sarkies brothers who founded the E&O. It is best known for its buffets — breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch and high tea — with the dinner spread long regarded by locals as one of Penang's most generous. The seafood line is the draw: squid, mussels, clams, oysters, prawns, crayfish, scallops, sashimi and more, alongside Malaysian and international dishes. The Friday and Saturday evening buffet adds free-flow wine and beer, and the hotel's elegant afternoon (and champagne) high tea is an institution in its own right.
