Restoran Mohamed Raffee (Mohd Raffe) is a veteran Penang nasi kandar that has been trading since 1959, when it started near the old Batu Gantong racecourse before moving to its present Burma Road premises in Pulau Tikus — a short hop from Gurney Drive — in 1998. It runs as a busy round-the-clock mamak shop, ladling mixed curries 'kuah campur' over rice. Food writers single out the ayam masak madu (honey chicken) and a fragrant nasi tomato that is only cooked for the late-morning window, alongside flaky, made-to-order roti. The curries lean a touch sweeter and richer than the George Town pioneers across the channel.
