Nasi Kandar Kayu — the Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar — began as a small shop in 1974 and has since become a fixture on Penang's heritage-cuisine map. Open around the clock at Lebuh Nipah near Bukit Jambul, it serves brisk, no-frills nasi kandar: steamed rice topped with fried chicken, squid, prawns and as much mixed curry gravy as you like, finished with a flourish of roti tissue. Tucked behind a residential neighbourhood, it's worth the short GPS detour for a reliable round-the-clock plate.
