Mclane Boutique Hotel occupies four small shophouses on Lorong Pasar (Market Lane), a narrow street in the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shophouses were built in the Southern Chinese Eclectic style, and the hotel says the restoration took four years before it opened in November 2019. Original features were kept, including carved timber doors, terracotta floor tiles, green ceramic ventilation tiles and the open courtyards, which now hold small indoor gardens, water features and outdoor tables. The hotel calls its rooms 'chambers' and furnishes them with custom-sourced Southern Chinese-style furniture, and each has a 40-inch TV and free Wi-Fi. Several room types, including some Standard Queen, Super Queen and Twin Single rooms, have no window, which is worth checking when you book. Services are limited but include room service, a luggage room and, at extra cost, in-room massage, car rental and sightseeing arrangements. The Goddess of Mercy Temple, Little India and the Pinang Peranakan Mansion are all a short walk away.
