Citadines Prai Penang is a serviced apartment block at Menara Sentral on Jalan Juru Sentral, in Bukit Mertajam on the Seberang Perai mainland. It is run by The Ascott Limited, the lodging arm of CapitaLand Investment, and opened under the Citadines name on 4 May 2023 after Ascott took over and rebranded a building previously called Sky Residence Prai, owned by Exopuri Development Sdn Bhd. There are 168 apartments, each with a kitchenette and separate living and dining areas, which makes the property better suited to long stays and self-catering than a conventional hotel room. It sits inside an industrial and business area surrounded by multinational and local firms, and most guest reviews on the official site come from people there for work rather than sightseeing. The recreation floor is at the top of the building: the pool, jacuzzi, fitness area and launderette are all on the 39th floor, with a meeting room and residents' lounge on the 8th. Ascott states the Penang Bridge is about 13 km away, roughly five minutes' drive, and that Penang International Airport is 23 to 24 km away, around 30 minutes by car. Juru Sentral and Icon City, both with shops and restaurants, are within walking distance. Note that the property is a long way from George Town and the island's tourist attractions, which is the most common complaint in its own published guest reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Citadines Prai Penang?
It is at G-01, Menara Sentral, Jalan Juru Sentral, 14000 Bukit Mertajam, Penang — on the Seberang Perai mainland rather than Penang island, despite the 'Prai' in the name. Ascott gives the Penang Bridge as about 13 km away, roughly five minutes by car, and Penang International Airport as 23 to 24 km, around 30 minutes by car.
Was this hotel previously called something else?
Yes. The building traded as Sky Residence Prai before The Ascott Limited took it over and relaunched it as Citadines Prai Penang on 4 May 2023. It is owned by Exopuri Development Sdn Bhd and was Ascott Malaysia's first Citadines property in Penang. Some booking sites still carry the old Sky Residence Prai name in their URLs.
What sort of apartments does it have?
There are 168 apartments. The room list on Ascott's site shows Studio Premier and Studio Premier Twin at 39 sqm for up to two people, Two-Bedroom Executive at 75 sqm and Two-Bedroom Premier at 82 sqm for up to four, and a Three-Bedroom Premier at 117 sqm for up to eight. Each unit has a kitchenette and separate living and dining areas.
What facilities are there?
The swimming pool, children's wading pool, jacuzzi, fitness area and launderette are on the 39th floor; the meeting room and residents' lounge are on the 8th. There is also 24-hour reception, 24-hour security and CCTV, daily housekeeping, a breakfast lounge, a business corner and internet corner, WiFi, an EV charging station on the ground floor, and a complimentary shuttle service from the lobby.
Is it suitable for a long stay?
It is built for one. Every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, and the property offers daily housekeeping, launderette facilities, laundry and dry cleaning, and Ascott's extended-stay programme. The cancellation terms distinguish between stays under 30 nights and stays of 30 nights or more, which tells you long stays are a normal part of the business here.
Can I bring a pet?
Yes. Ascott lists the property as pet-friendly, with pet beds, water bowls, snacks and long-stay packages. A charge applies for pets.
How do I get around without a car?
Ascott says Bukit Tengah train station, on the KTM Komuter Northern Line, is about a 38-minute walk. The property runs a complimentary shuttle service — Ascott asks guests to check the schedule with reception — and airport transfer and limousine services can be arranged for a fee. Juru Sentral and Icon City are close enough to walk to for food and shopping.
Is it a good base for sightseeing in Penang?
Not really. It is on the mainland in an industrial and business district, and the recurring criticism in Ascott's own published guest reviews is the distance from George Town and the island's attractions. It suits people working nearby, or anyone who wants a self-catering apartment on the mainland with quick bridge access, more than it suits a first-time sightseeing trip.
